Plans and Set-Out
Reading and interpreting plans, measuring, marking and setting out carpentry work.
Carpenter RPL allows experienced carpenters to have their skills assessed. These skills may come from employment, subcontracting, self-employment, previous training or overseas work.
You can demonstrate your skills through work records, project documents, photographs, videos and references. A practical assessment may also be required, so you may not need to repeat training for skills you already use at work.
Carpenter Recognition of Prior Learning, commonly called Carpenter RPL, assesses the carpentry skills and knowledge you gained through work or training.
Your experience is compared with the competency requirements of an Australian qualification. A qualification is not awarded based only on your job title or years of experience—you must provide sufficient evidence and demonstrate the required skills and knowledge.
Carpenter RPL may suit people who developed practical carpentry skills through employment, self-employment, subcontracting, previous training or overseas work.
Experienced carpenters without a formal Australian qualification
Subcontractors or self-employed carpenters
Residential or commercial carpenters
Carpenters with overseas experience
Workers with an incomplete apprenticeship
Eligibility depends on your actual duties, recent experience and available evidence.
